My digital artefact is based on collecting and posting some of the most important boxing matches of all time. As I have been a fan since a kid I already had an idea of many which I will post into my page, however this website has allowed me to establish a list of 10 boxing matches which I will be posting on the page. The information on it also is very useful in helping me to create the specific information of these fights to put in the posts such as who the winner of the fight was and how the fight panned out over the rounds.

4: “Boxing Vocabulary | English Club”. Englishclub.com. N.p., 2016. Web. 19 Apr. 2016. Available at: https://www.englishclub.com/vocabulary/sports-boxing.htm

This website covers the language and key vocabulary associated with the sport of boxing. The site begins with a brief summary of the origins of the sport as well as the rules. However the aspect of this site which would heavily help me would be the list of vocabulary of boxing jargon and phrases which I would be able to use in the descriptions of the fights I will be posting in the blog posts that I will create. Through this increased vocabulary of boxing jargon and phrases I will be able to make my blogs sound as professional as possible.

5: “Boxing News, Results, Interviews And Video – Boxing Scene”. Boxingscene.com. N.p., 2016. Web. 19 Apr. 2016. Available at: http://www.boxingscene.com/

This website is the centre of all news and discussion in regards to boxing today. It contains news of upcoming fights, recaps of previous fights, ranking of fighters and has a forum wherein fans of the sport are able to post their opinions and discuss with other fight fans. This site shows to me how despite boxing today being seen as withering away due to the appeal of other sports and the rise of the UFC, there is still a large community who are interested in the sport and that my blog would somewhat generate interest within this community at the least. However the layout of the page does seem confusing and could be improved.

6: “ESPN.Com: ALL-TIME GREATEST BOXERS”. Espn.go.com. N.p., 2016. Web. 19 Apr. 2016. Available at: http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/greatest/featureVideo?page=greatest110

As my tumblr blog’s purpose is to display some of boxing’s most important and greatest fights which has shaped the sport today, inevitably the posts will contain those who are known and recognized as greats within the sport. This site is extremely helpful as it lists 50 of the all time greatest boxers and profiles their individual records, career lengths and notes major moments of their careers. It also provides links to highlights videos of each of their careers. This has further assisted me into finding more fights to post in this blog based on each fighter’s best fights which are shown in each of their descriptions

An important aspect in evaluating a successful social media page is the amount of attention it receives and the interest it sparks. As my page is about boxing, obviously I want it to appeal to fight fans, but also I would like to use it as a way to introduce people to the world of boxing. By gaining more followers am I able to gain more attention on my blog, so the purpose of this page is to teach me ways to attain more followers through different methods such as engaging with other pages, liking other people’s posts and more. This site was highly informative and will help me immensely.

8: “BOXINGEGO”. Boxingego.tumblr.com. N.p., 2016. Web. 19 Apr. 2016. Available at: http://boxingego.tumblr.com/

This tumblr blog is a highly effective page based on boxing as it uses a wide range of communication mediums such as videos, memes and articles to display information about the sport. The variety within the content also drew my attention as it delves not only into what happens inside the ring, but also the politics behind the fight game as some boxers who are seen to avoid others are posted into this blog. This has influenced me in a way that I can add more content into my blogs whilst still mainly focusing on the best fights of all time.

9: “World Boxing Scene”. Facebook.com. N.p., 2016. Web. 19 Apr. 2016. Available at: https://www.facebook.com/WorldBoxingScene/?fref=nf

This is a Facebook page which I’ve been following for a while and the purpose is to constantly post boxing related material which may be relevant at the moment such as upcoming fights and predictions or moments from the past such as highlight reels, knockout compilations, classic fights and more to engage the pages’ followers into discussion in the comments section to generate attention into their posts. This page has shown me the importance of being consistent with posting as the page posts several times daily with new content which clearly shows that the page is constantly trending and therefore getting more followers.

10: “Legendary Nights – The Tale Of Hagler Vs Hearns…”. YouTube. N.p., 2016. Web. 19 Apr. 2016. Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=396c6NrTjLQ

The “Legendary Nights” segments in HBO showcases the stories of some of the best fights which include interviews with the fighters, trainers and attendants to recap the events before, during and after the fight to show the viewers the full story of the event and their impact on the sport of boxing. These segments allow me to determine fights I will be using for my blog, as well as help me understand the story behind these fights so that I can summarize it in my own words in the description. This segment is effective as it highlights the appeal of showing the story behind legendary fights to both boxing fanatics and as a way to bring new audiences to appreciate the sport.

remixin it up

A very important part of music history is the rise of digital technology in the late 1980’s to allow sounds to be converted into data and store it as computer information.

Digital audio today is the dominant form of music recording and production. In the “digital world” in music, sounds are simply represented as numbers in the form of a binary system. With this capability to digitally produce music digitally, musicians or producers are able to sample previously recorded pieces of music and sounds and be able to edit it. Not only is remixing relevant to music, but to remixing footage as well. Anyone has the capability to do it such as me. Here is a video remix I made on Imovie:

Those issues aside, I feel remix culture and sampling is an important part of today’s music as there is a diverse range of abilities we are now able to grasp in creating music, and the youth culture of today who are exposed to night life and parties are immersed in these remixes to offer new experiences of songs in the form of these remixes.

Fear The Transmedia Narratives

The universe of The Walking Dead originally was introduced to audiences through comics and was later adapted into a TV show by Frank Darabont which loosely followed the storyline of the comics with some plot tweaks to suit the ratings. The comic series are still continuing whilst the TV show is following ahead. Stories within the universe of The Walking Dead is also told through video games as developers created a Telltale game series, as well as another game which follows the character of Darryl. Recently a spin off television show called ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ has been running however receiving negative feedback.

Each of these mediums tell a different story within the Walking Dead universe allowing different experiences as the video game allows the audience to interact with the storyline and their personal experience within the universe.

This is one of many examples wherein stories are told through different mediums to provide an audience with different experiences within a text.In many cases audiences are able to create these Transmedia narratives in the form of fan fiction.

In the media, the focus on how stories are told is called Transmedia Storytelling

Transmedia storytelling according to Henry Jenkins “represents a process where integral elements of a fiction get dispersed systematically across multiple delivery channels for the purpose of creating a unified and coordinated entertainment experience. Ideally, each medium makes it own unique contribution to the unfolding of the story.”

Here is the Prezi for The Walking Dead as a Transmedia Narrative:

Packed To The Crafters

The art of craft making has throughout the years opened a wide range of jobs and lifestyles that didn’t exist only a decade ago. Craft and digital making and the success of what is created ultimately relies on the process undertaken and the appeal of the product itself. Thus anyone can really be considered a craft maker if attempted, however success is no guarantee.

Throughout the process the makers have to take many things into consideration such as the appeal of the product, the function, how long it will be relevant and how similar they are to other products.

Here is an example of a piece of digital craft I created, I played guitar in a hardcore band from sydney called Clockworks and this is a song we released
(Brace your ears if you do listen to it, it aint soft and easy to the ears aha)

The obvious examples of craft makers are film makers, artists, musicians and gaming developers. These are the most popular types of craft makers that society are familiar with for the reason that the media they are creating are those that appeal to the interests of the wider community.
